Coconut Bay Chefs Chosen for Competition
We were honored to have two of our chefs compete – and place – in this year’s Taste of the Caribbean competition, which is hosted by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association annually. More than 100 different hotels, resorts, restaurants and other businesses sent chefs to this year’s event, and Coconut Bay’s own Caron Jean and Martha Hippolyte were selected by the Saint Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association to represent Saint Lucia on a national team.
Caron and Martha traveled to Miami’s Hyatt Regency Hotel to compete in team, bartender, pastry and individual competitions. One of the highlights of the event was the Taste of the Islands Festival. The festival was open to the public, and each team was given mystery ingredients to incorporate into two savory dishes, one dessert and one rum-based cocktail for patrons to sample.
Coconut Bay Chefs Make Saint Lucia Proud
The Saint Lucia national team had a stand-up showing and received a silver medal in the overall competition. Chef Martha received an honorable mention in the individual cheesecake competition and Chef Caron won a silver medal in the individual beef competition!
